The first Iridium SVP-B drifters were deployed

According to the goals of Iridium Pilot Project Marlin-Yug Ltd developed and built experimental cluster of SVP-B and SVP-B mini drifters with Iridium data link. All the buoys have GPS receivers, which allow essential increasing of space-time resolution, when study of surface and subsurface currents. Experimental version 3.0 of data format, developed by Meteo-France, is used for data transfer. Two buoys were successfully deployed on 10 October 2007 in the Black Sea. Two other buoys have to be deployed in North and South Atlantics in the nearest time. The picture shows the track of one buoy, deployed in the Black Sea, where the part of track has higher resolution to demonstrate the results of GPS using when investigation of mesoscale variability of near surface currents.
