Pilot Caspian drifter experiment has been started

Three Marlin SVP-BT barometric drifters were deployed on 5-th October in Caspian Sea. In addition to sea surface temperature sensor, all the drifters have subsurface temperature sensor at the 12m depth. Identification numbers of buoys are 34265, 34266, 34267; WMO numbers are 61685, 61686, 61770.

These deployments are the result of international collaboration (Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, USA) under the NATO Science for Peace Project. The drifters have continued to be in operation up to the end of November. Participants of experiment receive and process data from buoys.

Prolongation of the experiment should be in January 2007, when next batch of 3 SVP-BT drifters should be deployed.
